Getting Around

Internal travel can be great fun. The local taxis and tourist taxis are generally-speaking quite delapidated, so wear a seatbelt and keep an eye on the driver. The tourist taxis are supposed to be of a higher standard than the local taxis, but there is no guarantee of that. The main difference is that the tourist taxis are coloured green and can usually get closer to the hotels than the yellow and green local taxis.

If you really want to travel as the locals do hail a bush taxi. This is a mini bus (usually falling apart) that follows a fixed route - so check that its going where you want to go. This is also the cheap way to get around - a journey from the Senegambia hotel to Banjul will cost around 10 Dalasi each way (thats about 20p) but will involve two different bush taxi routes: first to Serrekunda before changing there for Banjul.

For some trips a boat might be the answer. You can charter boats to go up river from Denton Bridge.
